Stop reportedly yields drugs and a stolen handgun

JOLIET TOWNSHIP — A man was arrested Tuesday after police reportedly found drugs and a stolen gun in his car.
Ryan M. Salyers, 21, was driving a 1991 Chevrolet Impala shortly after 3 a.m. near Briggs and Washington streets.
“A deputy saw there was no light on the rear license plate and stopped the vehicle,” Will County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Kathy Hoffmeyer said.
Salyers, of 106 Peale St., has a suspended license and police reportedly found 2 grams of cocaine, 6 grams of cannabis, 26 prescription painkillers and a silver .357 Ruger handgun that had been reported stolen.
Apartment fire
COAL CITY — No one was injured when fire broke out in an apartment Tuesday evening.
The blaze was reported after 6 p.m. at 455 W. Division Street.
Crews were still on the scene at 8 p.m., but Fire Chief Harold Holsinger said the damage was confined to one unit.
Carjacking charges
PLAINFIELD — Two teens have been arrested in connection with an attempted carjacking earlier this month.
A woman driving around 10:15 p.m. Feb. 5 in the 14400 block of Independence Drive was asked for a ride by Diamond J. Maxwell, 18, and a 16-year-old.
“After the victim said no, (he) proceeded to reach inside the vehicle and punch her on the left side of her face, while the other opened the passenger door,” Sgt. Kevin McQuaid said.
Maxwell, of 14430 S. Independence Drive, was charged with attempted vehicular invasion, aggravated battery and criminal trespassing. The juvenile was charged with aggravated battery.
In police news:
Larry L. Robinson: 46, of 1006 N. Hickory St. in Joliet, was arrested by Joliet police and booked into the county jail Monday on charges of aggravated battery and driving under the influence of alcohol.
Guadencio Lopez: 35, of 152 Richmond Drive in Bolingbrook, was arrested by Bolingbrook police and booked into the county jail Tuesday on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and operating an uninsured vehicle.
