Kendall seeks grant for nature museum

The Kendall County Forest Preserve District will seek a $150,000 to $175,000 grant to put new displays in the Laws of Nature center.
Forest Preserve commissioners this week authorized applying for the grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.
They will use the grant to develop new exhibits at the nature center, which is housed in the Historic Kendall County Courthouse in downtown Yorkville.
The nature center features displays about the Fox River and the ecosystems around the county’s rivers, streams and wetlands. They are the same exhibits the center has had for about 10 to 12 years, said Jason Pettit, Forest Preserve director.
“We’d like to update them, get something fresh for people,” Pettit said.
The state grant would be between $150,000 and $175,000, and the Forest Preserve match would be $50,000. Pettit said the money would come out of the district’s capital fund.
