NEW LENOX — Associate Superintendent Peggy Manville will replace Michael Sass as superintendent when he retires, the New Lenox School Board announced Wednesday.
Sass is scheduled to retire at the end of the 2015 school year. In his final year, however, he will step down to become associate superintendent, replacing Manville.
Business Manager Harold Huang is also scheduled to retire at the end of 2014.
The switch between Sass and Manville is to allow Sass to take a more active role in training a new business manager.
“We want to make sure as a board that this transition is smooth,” said board President Nick DiSandro.
DiSandro said that losing Huang and Sass will be a major change to the district. The board all agreed with Manville as the new superintendent, he said.
“When you have somebody from within doing an excellent job already, it makes the decision that much easier,” he said. “As a board, we have all been very pleased with the work product and the stuff she does.”
Manville had a multitude of cost-saving ideas that impressed the board. She has taken on extra work without additional pay when positions were eliminated or vacant, DiSandro said.
