Joliet bar sees license suspended, fined

JOLIET — Samy’s Lounge has had its liquor license suspended for two nights this week because of an underage drinking incident.
The bar also was fined $2,000 as Mayor and Liquor Commissioner Thomas Giarrante said he wants to send a message to liquor establishments throughout Joliet.
Samy’s license was suspended from midday Tuesday to midday Thursday.
Giarrante said the severity of the penalties were in part because of past problems at Samy’s. But he said he also wanted liquor license-holders to know that serving to minors will be costly for them.
The penalties followed an incident on April 11 at the bar, which is located at 3151 Voyager Lane.
