JOLIET — A Plainfield man was sentenced to 21/2 years in prison for threatening to kill a man because he’s Jewish, court records show.

Jacob D. Kozak, 24, received the sentence after pleading guilty to a hate crime this week in front of Will County Judge Richard Schoenstedt.

Police said Kozak had been outside working on his car in March 2011 when a neighbor walked by and said “hello.” Kozak responded by making derogatory comments about the man’s religion and then threatening the man and his wife, police said at the time.
