PLAINFIELD - Fire destroyed one house and damaged another Wednesday night in the 23600 block of Rolf Road.

No one was injured in the fire, which Deputy Fire Chief Jon Stratton said was reported at 5:41 p.m.

“Crews arrived to find the front of the two-story house on fire, the car on the driveway had started on fire and there were flames on the wall of the house next door from the heavy winds,” Stratton said.

The owner of the house where the fire started was able to get out safely with his dog. No one was home at the house next door and it was not known if their pets were accounted for.

Stratton said a ruptured gas meter had to be shut off before firefighters could get the blaze completely under control which took about an hour. Stratton called the first house “a total loss.”

Traffic on Route 59 between Joliet and Plainfield was detoured for a short time during the fire and smoke could be easily seen from Joliet’s far west side.

The cause of the fire was under inveatigation Wednesday night but did not appear suspicious, Stratton said.
