Season 2 of the Starz series “Boss,” which was partially filmed in the Joliet area, will premiere on Aug. 17.
According to the cable network’s web site, www.starz.com, the Kelsey Grammer drama will air at 9 p.m. Fridays.
In April, the show’s crew filmed scenes at the former Silver Cross Hospital campus on the city’s East Side as well as two downtown locations — The Department Restaurant and Jitters Coffee House.
In the show, Grammer of “Cheers” and “Frasier” fame plays fictional Chicago Mayor Tom Kane, who is suffering from a degenerative brain disorder.
Gina Duffy, co-owner of Jitters, said she was thrilled to know the shows would be airing soon. She did not watch “Boss” last year, so she plans to catch up by tuning into a marathon of Season 1 episodes that will start at 4 p.m. Aug. 11.
“I don’t get that network, but I’m definitely going to add it,” she said.
Duffy said she loved having her business featured in the show, which filmed in front of Jitters on Chicago Street.
“They did an amazing job transforming the outside,” she said. “It was so beautiful.”
It took three weeks of preparation and one day of filming to shoot one scene. On the day of filming, the entire crew arrived at once and transformed the exterior of the coffee shop.
“They come in like a group of bees,” Duffy said. “Every single person knows what needs to be done.”
Scenes for the first season of “Boss” also were shot in Joliet at the Joliet Restaurant on Clinton Street. Others scenes were shot in Romeoville, Aurora and Chicago.
