Quinn signs Diabetes Awareness Day into law

PLAINFIELD — Gov. Pat Quinn signed a diabetes awareness law Tuesday at Edward health facility, proclaiming Nov. 14 as Diabetes Awareness Day in Illinois.
The bill was sponsored by House Minority Leader Tom Cross, R-Oswego, whose daughter Reynolds was in attendance for the signing. Reynolds, 19, a student at North Central College in Naperville, has Type 1 diabetes.
At one point, Quinn tried to get Reynolds to say a few words.
“Your father is never at a loss for words,” Quinn said.
Also in attendance was state Rep. Jim Durkin, R-LaGrange, and his daughter, Caroline, 10, who also has Type 1 diabetes.
Quinn signed the bill on the heels of a new national health care plan that was upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court last month and his elimination of the Illinois Cares prescription plan for senior citizens.
“We want decent health care for everyone in Illinois,” Quinn said during the event.
