Steger girl dies after hit by van

A 19-month-old Steger girl died Wednesday night after she was hit by a minivan in Crete, the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.
Holly Silva, of the 100 block of West Richton Road, was struck in the 1100 block of Main Street and died at St. James Hospital in Chicago Heights at 7:40 p.m. Wednesday, according to the office. It said she died from multiple injuries received in the crash, which was ruled an accident.
On Thursday, a small wood cross bearing a red ribbon stood on a lawn near where a long gravel driveway meets Main Street, marking the accident scene.
A man working on a car at the end of the driveway, near a garage, said he knew nothing about the girl’s death.
