JOLIET — A Crest Hill man was shot to death in the parking lot of a fast-food restaurant early Wednesday.

Police said Timothy L. Egner, 54, was waiting to pick up an employee at Wendy’s, 104 N. Center St. His green Acura was parked near the doors of the building, while running with the lights on.

“He’d been there for about a half-hour before (the attack) occurred at 2:40 a.m. and we received 911 calls,” Cmdr. Al Roechner said. Investigators learned two black men had shot at the vehicle and ran north. No other suspect description was provided.

Responding firefighters said Egner, who was still belted behind the wheel, was dead and did not take him to the hospital. A deputy Will County coroner was called to the scene and pronounced him dead at 3:47 a.m.

Roechner said police found five shell casings in the parking lot.

“Nothing was taken from the victim and we have not learned of any motive for shooting him,” Roechner said.

Will County Coroner Patrick K. O’Neil said an autopsy showed Egner died of multiple gunshot wounds.

No one answered the door at the Egner residence Wednesday afternoon and a neighbor said the family had requested privacy.
