JOLIET — A lot of area fire departments have some distinctive colors for their equipment.
Coal City’s trucks are orange, Plainfield’s are white. Troy’s newer equipment is burgundy.
Joliet always has had traditional “fire engine” red. But on Aug. 21, it’ll also be using some trucks of a different hue.
Four pink fire trucks will lead a procession of Joliet’s police and fire vehicles and cancer survivors, their friends and families. The pink trucks will be in the area as part of the Pink Heals Tour, which raises awareness and shows support for victims of cancer affecting women.
The pink trucks are expected to arrive in town about 10 a.m. At noon, they’ll be at at joint luncheon of the Joliet Exchange Club, Shorewood Rotary and Council for Working Women at Heroes West, 1530 Commerce Lane.
From 2 to 4 p.m., patients of Joliet Oncology-Hematology Associates, 2614 W. Jefferson St., will be able to see the pink trucks before they head to the rally, which runs from 5 to 8 p.m. at Memorial Stadium, 3000 W. Jefferson St.
The pink shirts serve as admission tickets and can be purchased for $20 at JOHA and Heartland Bank, 700 W. Jefferson St. in Shorewood.
