Sunday

Holy Cross Parish picnic: 9 a.m. Sunday Polka Mass at Holy Cross Church and a Polish Mass at 10:30 a.m. at the grotto in St. Joseph Cemetery followed by a day of fun at St. Joseph Park. Featuring food, refreshments, bingo, children’s games and music by Gora Band from 1:30-4:30 p.m. and Downtown Sound from 5-8:30 p.m.

Celebration dinner: The Joliet Jewish Congregation will hold its annual Celebration Dinner on Sunday at the Jacob Henry Mansion. This year’s honorees are Judy and Mike Block and Dianne and Fran Parker. For invitation information, call Mark Turk at 815-922-4065.

Festa Italiana: 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday with an outdoor Mass and procession sponsored by American Italian Cultural Society, 1918 Donmaur Drive, Crest Hill. Free admission. Featuring food and beverages, a bake sale, children’s games and entertainment. The menu includes meatball, beef and sausage sandwiches, mostaccioli, pizza, gelato, cannoli and tiramisu. Brat fest: From noon to 6 p.m. Sunday, the American Legion Riders Brat Fest will be held at John Olson Post 18, 151st Street and Archer Avenue in Lockport. Featuring brats, burgers and hot dogs. Cost is $10 per person or $5 for kids 12 and younger. Featuring the band Bad Ground from 2-5 p.m. Money raised will support the American Legion Post 18 Building Fund and the American Legion Legacy Scholarship for children of active-duty U.S. military and guard and reserve personnel who were mobilized and died on active duty on or after Sept. 11, 2001.

Ice cream social/dance: From 6:30-9:30 p.m. Sunday , United Singles of Joliet will hold a dance at Knights of Columbus Hall, 100 S. 129th Infantry Drive, Joliet. Admission is $10 for guests. Casual dress with cash bar. Music provided by DJ Mike Borgra. Refreshments provided by United Singles. Bring a first-time guest and receive a ticket for drawing for free pass to a future dance. Monday deadline

Charity art auction: Monday is the deadline to RSVP to the charity art auction to benefit for Feed My Starving Children. The auction will be from 6:30-9:30 p.m. Thursday at the Lemont Township Community Center, 16300 Alba. It will include a silent auction of a wide collection of fine art from talented regional artists, a reception, adult beverages and music. The cost is $25 per person. Outdoor flea market: Friday is the deadline for vendor pre-registration for the flea market at The Oaks Recreation and Fitness Center. Pre-registration costs $20 and must be submitted by 4 p.m. Friday. Vendors can also register the day of the event, but the registration fee increases to $25. Hurricane party: At 8 p.m. Saturday, New Lenox VFW Hall Post 9545, 323 Old Hickory Road, will host a hurricane fundraiser party featuring a shrimp boil, jambalaya, hamburgers, hot dogs, music, games and hurricane drinks. Tickets for hurricane glasses are available at the New Lenox VFW Hall for $8. Each ticket entitles a person to one glass and one drink. Refills with cost $5 for people who have purchased the glass.
