Trio charged in Plainfield armed robbery

Updated: September 17, 2012 12:59PM

PLAINFIELD — Police say an armed robber shot at two people while holding up a convenience store early Wednesday.

Around 2:30 a.m., Andre L. Mack, 18, Deshone E. Grissom, 19, and Mequin N. Sample, 24, walked into 7-11 at 14807 S. Route 59 and threatened the clerk, Chief John Konopek said.

“The suspects had two firearms and Mack fired one inside the store, which struck the floor and damaged some tile,” he said.

After taking cash, the trio ran to a car parked nearby, where Mack reportedly shot again at a resident who came outside.

No one was injured.

As the robbers fled east on Route 30, Plainfield police broadcast a description to other agencies. Sample’s car was stopped by Joliet and Crest Hill police at 2:47 a.m. in the 1500 block of North Larkin Avenue.

“All three suspects were brought back for questioning and gave a full confession of the robbery,” Konopek said.

Mack, of 5756 N. Washertaw Ave. in Chicago; Grissom, of 14510 S. Whipple St. in Posen; and Sample, of 332 S. Austin Blvd. in Oak Park, were booked into the county jail on charges of armed robbery. Mack was also charged with aggravated assault, aggravated discharge of a firearm and vandalism.
