HOMER TOWNSHIP — A 21-year-old dirt bike rider was killed after colliding with a dump truck Tuesday night.
Will County Sheriff’s police said around 8:20 p.m. Nicholas M. DeMarco was riding a friend’s Yamaha bike west on 146th Place when a truck pulling a box trailer turned onto the street from southbound Smith Road.
DeMarco struck the front of the truck. The truck driver, a 36-year-old Lockport man, was not injured and ran to a nearby house to call 911.
DeMarco, who was not wearing a helmet, was taken to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox where he was pronounced dead at 9:13 p.m.
The Yamaha dirt bike did not have headlights nor reflectors and is not considered a street legal vehicle. According to reports, DeMarco’s 22-year-old friend had purchased the 80cc bike earlier that day and allowed him to take a ride.
The truck driver was not ticketed.
