Mahalik leaves vice president role at City Center Partnership

JOLIET — Tom Mahalik, a longtime leader in the promotion of downtown Joliet, has stepped down from his position as vice president of the Joliet City Center Partnership.
The organization said it will begin a search for an economic developer.
Mahalik will stay involved with the City Center Partnership as a consultant, the group said in a written announcement.
“Mahalik had requested a reduction in his workload,” John Greuling, chief executive officer of the Will County Center for Economic Development which oversees the City Center Partnership, said in the announcement. “As a result we are restructuring the staffing of the City Center Partnership and eliminating his current position.”
Greuling said the City Center Partnership will conduct a national search for a full-time economic developer.
“We expect to find a number of applicants with the traits we need to carry our plan to the next level,” he said.
Mahalik was vice president with the partnership for 15 years and had worked on re-branding downtown as an entertainment destination while leading economic development efforts.
