Ever dream of being a major league baseball player?
Not many have the opportunity. But there is an alternative.
You can step into the batter’s box and take your cuts against former major leaguers Danny Cox, Donn Pall, Dave Stewart, Steve Trout and Rich Nye and at the same time help raise funds for the Joliet Grade Schools Foundation.
The 10th annual Take Me Out to the Ball Game baseball fundraiser will be Thursday at Silver Cross Field. Former White Sox pitcher Billy Pierce, who is 85, is expected to make an appearance during the afternoon and former Sox and Cubs outfielder Jay Johnstone joins the former pitchers on the guest list.
The cost is $500 per person and includes an official Cubs or White Sox jersey. Participants can bring whatever they would like to be signed.
The reception from 5 to 7:30 p.m. upstairs at the ballpark is open to the public for $30. That includes hors d’oeuvres, soft drinks, raffle, silent auction, cash bar and autograph opportunities.
A limited number of baseball spots is available. Contact Glen Marcum at (815) 23-6362 or (815) 741-1229, or Sandy Zalewski at (815) 740-3196, Ext. 204 or (815) 791-3230.
