LOCKPORT — Alderman Justin Fentress is resigning from the city council, effective Nov. 24, after accepting a new job.

Fentress has operated Patriot Home Inspections in Lockport. With his new job, however, he believed that he did not have the flexibility in his schedule for his role on the city council.

Fentress, who has represented Lockport’s 3rd Ward since being elected in spring 2011, announced his resignation at Wednesday night’s council meeting.

Fentress said he still owns his home, and was trying to sell it. He had wanted to stay on the council until after the April 2013 mayoral election. Then, he said, the people would vote for the mayor who would appoint Fentress’ replacement on the council.

“I thought it would be more fair to the citizens to let them decide,” he said.

Fentress, a U.S. Army veteran, graduated from Millikin University in 1998 with a degree in management information systems. He is married with two young children.
