BOLINGBROOK — The van is in the garage ... no, not that way.
Police say a drunken driver damaged a car and yard before crashing through the wall of a house early Saturday.
Lt. Mike Rompa said police were called at 3:24 a.m. about a gray 2003 Chrysler van that had been traveling north in the 500 block Thomas Road.
“Preliminary investigation indicates the driver struck a parked car that rolled down the street and ended up in a driveway of a residence on the 100 block of Norman. The van continued to travel north, went across the lawn and (through a side wall) into the garage (on) Eric Way.”
No one inside was injured, and Michael D. Karwoske, 36, was able to get out of the vehicle. He reportedly was standing in front of the house when officers arrived.
He was taken to Bolingbrook Hospital for examination before being charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, improper lane usage, driving too fast for conditions and operating an uninsured vehicle.
The Bolingbrook Building Department was contacted to check the structure of the residence. Its findings were not immediatedly available.
