Here is a look at The Herald-News 2012 All-Area Girls Volleyball Team.

SARAH ADLER

Joliet Catholic, Sr., 5-5, Libero

Stats: 340 digs, 165 service points, 23 aces

Notable: All-East Suburban Catholic.

Coach Christine Scheibe: “Sarah is our quiet, steady person in that back row who has that fire burning inside her that you might not always see outwardly.”

T’ARA AUSTIN

Joliet Central, Sr., 5-9, Middle

Stats: 358 kills, 42 blocks, 238 digs

Notable: All-SouthWest Suburban, all-tournament at Joliet Central.

Coach Suzzie Bambule: “I feel T’ara is the most well-rounded, best player in the area.”

MARIAN BARTON

Reed-Custer, Sr., 5-11, Outside

Stats: 271 kills, 191 digs, 73 aces, 27 blocks

Notable: All-Interstate Eight, all-tournament at Beecher.

Coach Denny Pommier: “Any time one player leads your team in every statistical category, like Marian, you hate to see her graduate, but your opponents are happy!”

KRISTA BRAKAUSKAS

Providence, Sr., 5-9, Setter

Stats: 417 assists, 164 kills, 42 aces, 222 digs, 79 blocks

Notable: All-tournament at Plainfield North, Oak Lawn, Rich East, Autumnfest, co-captain, three-year starter, committed to Miami (Ohio).

Coach Rachel Ellingson: “Krista is the heart and soul of the team. She is a true captain and leader.”

MARIA BROWN

Lincoln-Way Central, Jr., 5-8, Outside

Stats: 286 kills, 78 blocks, 277 digs

Notable: All-tournament at Rich East, St. Charles East.

Coach Kathy Sulkowski: “Maria was one of our most athletic, dynamic and explosive members of the Knights.”

KAYLA CURRIER

Lincoln-Way East, Jr., 6-foot, Middle

Stats: 213 kills, 59 blocks, 17 aces

Notable: All-tournament at Lincoln-Way Central and Rich East, two-year starter.

Coach Linda Vivona: “Kayla is a very dynamic player who carries a great deal of energy on and off the court. She gets the team fired up and plays with great determination.”

SKYLER DAY

Minooka, Jr., 5-10, Outside

Stats: 347 kills, 185 digs, 39 aces, 31 blocks

Notable: All-Southwest Prairie, all-tournament at Edwardsville.

Coach Chris Hoelscher: “We needed Skyler to play six rotations this year, and she made the transition easily. She was one of our steadiest passers and played solid defense as well.”

AMANDA DOLAN

Lincoln-Way Central, Sr., 6-3, Middle

Stats: 239 kills, 165 blocks

Notable: All-SouthWest Suburban Blue, all-tournament at Lincoln-Way Central, captain.

Coach Kathy Sulkowski: “Amanda’s blocking was stellar, and she was an offensive powerhouse for us.”

KATE FEDERICO

Plainfield North, Jr., 5-10, Setter

Stats: 638 assists, 108 kills, 142 digs

Notable: All-Southwest Prairie, all-tournament at Yorkville, Plainfield North.

Coach Tracey Marshall: “Kate stepped into a different category as a setter this year and brought such a spark to the team.”

AUBREY FICEK

Lockport, Sr., 5-10, Outside

Stats: 230 kills, 282 digs, 42 aces

Notable: All-SouthWest Suburban Blue, committed to Michigan Tech.

Coach Erika Lange: “Aubrey is a fierce competitor, one who is willing and able to carry a team.

EMILY HALLIDAY

Coal City, Jr., 5-9, Outside

Stats: 264 kills, 313 digs, 37 blocks, 35 aces

Notable: All-Interstate Eight, Team MVP, all-tournament at Manteno.

Coach Michael Lanoue: “Emily is a gifted player who only wants to win and will do anything for the team to achieve that.”

CIARA HILL

Bolingbrook, Sr., 5-10, Outside

Stats: 349 kills, 220 digs, 58 blocks

Notable: All-SouthWest Suburban, all-tournament at United Township, Waubonsie Valley, Team MVP, two-time Herald-News All-Area.

Coach Andrea Bercot: “Ciara was a seasoned veteran for us, and her experience helped lead the team in practice and matches.”

ELIZABETH HYLAND

Plainfield Central, Soph., 5-11, Outside

Stats: 292 kills, 199 digs, 85 blocks, 41 aces

Notable: Team co-captain, All-Southwest Prairie.

Coach Jessica Clark: “The girls listen and respect Elizabeth as a person and player. She has been strong for us all around the court.”

KENDALL KORTE

Morris, Sr., 5-8, Outside

Stats: 203 kills, 23 aces, 14 blocks, 329 digs

Notable: AVCA All-State nomination, team captain, committed to Lander University.

Coach Jackie Litwiller: “Kendall is a four-year starter and has really helped Morris volleyball to be recognized.”

MEGAN LITOBORSKI

Lemont, Sr., 5-9, Setter

Stats: 609 assists, 119 digs, 23 aces, 23 blocks

Notable: South Suburban Blue Player of the Year, all-tournament at Wheaton Warrenville South, two-time Herald-News All-Area, two-time captain.

Coach Chris Zogata: “Megan ran our offense for two years and much of our success is due to the strategies she uses on the court.”

ALYSSA MALONEY

Providence, Sr., 6-foot, Middle

Stats: 219 kills, 120 blocks, 88 digs, 21 aces

Notable: Oak Lawn Tournament MVP, all-tournament at Plainfield North, co-captain, committed to Bowling Green.

Coach Rachel Ellingson: “Alyssa is a great captain and a go-to player for leadership and support, not to mention a force in the front row.”

MALLORY MANGUN

Joliet Catholic, Sr., 5-7, Setter

Stats: 761 assists, 117 blocks, 244 digs, 39 aces

Notable: All-East Suburban Catholic, all-tournament at Mizuno, committed to Southern Illinois-Edwardsville.

Coach Christine Scheibe: “Mallory plays so much bigger than she is. She has great knowledge of the game and was our spark plug all year.”

KAYLA PFEIFFER

Lockport, Jr., 5-9, Setter/Outside

Stats: 246 kills, 344 assists, 205 digs

Notable: All-tournament at Rich East, Champaign Centennial, All-SouthWest Suburban Blue.

Coach Erika Lange: “Kayla’s incredible instincts and court sense make her extremely hard to defend. She was our most consistent all-around player.”

NICOLE PIHL

Seneca, Sr., 6-foot, Middle

Stats: 242 kills, 46 aces, 42 blocks

Notable: Committed to DePaul for softball, All-Interstate Eight.

Coach Karen Raney: “Nicole has big time power who plays all six rotations and can attack in any direction.”

MORGAN REARDON

Joliet Catholic, Sr., 6-foot, Outside

Stats: 413 kills, 46 aces, 160 service points, 281 digs, 104 blocks

Notable: Herald-News Player of the Year, All-East Suburban Catholic, all-tournament at Asics, Mizuno, Autumnfest, two-time Herald-News All-Area, committed to Loyola.

Coach Christine Scheibe: “Morgan took the team upon her shoulders this year. So many of the girls looked up to her and wanted to follow her.”

KYLIE RENDAK

Lemont, Sr., 5-9, Outside

Stats: 215 kills, 98 digs, 30 aces, 24 blocks

Notable: All-South Suburban, all-tournament at Benet.

Coach Chris Zogata: “Kylie was our go-to hitter, and as a player she is one of the smartest hitters we’ve ever had.”

KAITLYN SIADEK

Lincoln-Way Central, Sr., 5-10, Setter

Stats: 765 assists, 204 digs, 99 blocks

Notable: All-SouthWest Suburban Blue, all-tournament at St. Charles East, three-year captain.

Coach Kathy Sulkowski: “Kaitlyn is an essential piece of this team, and without her, we wouldn’t have had the success we did.”

SARAH WEGRZYN

Lincoln-Way West, Sr., 6-foot, Outside

Stats: 243 kills, 187 digs, 21 aces

Notable: All-SouthWest Suburban, all-tournament at Oak Lawn, Rich South, two-time Herald-News All-Area.

Coach Rory Harrison: “Sarah set the tone for the team and demonstrated her leadership skills on and off the court.”

MACKENZI WELSH

Plainfield East, Fr., 6-foot, Right Side/Setter

Stats: 254 kills, 237 assists, 62 blocks, 33 aces

Notable: Team MVP, All-Southwest Prairie.

Coach Emily Tonon: “MacKenzi’s level of play is beyond her year in school, and we look forward to helping her reach her fullest potential over the next three years.”
