JOLIET — A 19-year-old man was shot by an assailant after arriving at a friend’s house Wednesday afternoon, police said.
Shortly after 1 p.m. the man arrived in the 200 block of North Hickory Street and parked a tan Chevrolet Cavalier on the street in front of the two-story blue house he was visiting, Cmdr. Brian Benton said. Police are not releasing the shooting victim’s name, but say he is expected to survive.
The resident of the house, who had been expecting the man, heard a shot, opened his door and the man collapsed inside, Benton said. “There were no witnesses outside.” The victim was reportedly conscious when police arrived and told them a man he didn’t know approached him when he got out of the Cavalier.
He was shot once in his chest and taken to Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center. Police said he was expected to survive. The shooting was still being investigated Wednesday night.
