Democrat Reed Bible’s victory in his District 5 Will County Board race cemented his party’s edge in board politics. His win led to all kinds political speculation after the final votes were counted on Tuesday, including:
“We’re going to prove to the people of Will County that Democrats can conduct their affairs and do it well.” — Bible on the Democrats first chance to lead on the board in 32 years.
“Republicans have been in the position where they’ve had to do almost all of the work. We had to take the criticism. Democrats for many years were just naysayers, just opposing everything.” — Board Chairman Jim Moustis, R-Frankfort Township, on his party’s long tenure as the majority.
“Our people are more than willing to work with Republicans to do things for the citizens of Will County. I think they’re going to find if they’ll come aboard, we’ll be more than willing to work with them in a way that the Republicans in the past have not worked with the Democrats.” — Will County Democratic Party Chairman Scott Pyles on his party’s bi-partisan vibe.

Adapting Joliet’s LeadsOnline ordinance to satisfy all second-hand dealers may be an impossible task.
Joliet wants to put items sold to pawn shops, jewelers, coin dealers and other such businesses on the LeadsOnline service. Police use the Internet system to watch for stolen goods. Businesses have objected, saying customers may go elsewhere out of concern for privacy.
Coin dealers in particular do not believe they need to be included in the system. But exemptions could cause problems, especially among businesses dealing in the same merchandise.
“You can’t give one business a competitive advantage over another,” Frank Kula of Kula’s Jewelry & Loan told the city council last week.

The city of Joliet website is going through an overhaul, and the new site could be ready by the end of the year.
“We think it will be a much better representation of what we are all about in the city,” said Scott Kinsella, Joliet’s information technology chief.
The city now posts its budget, employee salaries and other financial information on www.cityofjoliet.info. Kinsella said the new site will add more transparency to the city’s financial affairs..
Buh bye Boss
Don’t expect to see actor Kelsey Grammer and the rest of the cast of the Starz drama “Boss” in Joliet again this spring. While the cable TV show’s cast and crew frequented several city spots — including The Department Restaurant, the old Silver Cross Hospital and Jitters coffee shop — during filming last year, the show has been canceled.
