Donne Trotter vows to continue campaign for Congress

State Sen. Donne Trotter told reporters Wednesday that he plans to continue with his campaign for Congress despite his arrest last week for attempting to bring a gun aboard an airplane.
Trotter said he plans to attend the Democratic slate-making session scheduled for Saturday, where he remains a favorite for the party’s backing.
His lawyer, Thomas Anthony Durkin, said Trotter did not know he had the gun in his posession and that his case is being blown out of proportion by prosecutors and the news media.
Durkin said prosecutors informed him they intend to take Trotter’s case to a grand jury to seek an indictment.
Durkin said he had hoped to force a preliminary hearing Wednesday that would have exposed the weakness of the case against Trotter. Instead, prosecutors received a continuance until Jan. 17.
On Durkin’s advice, Trotter declined to discuss any of the circumstances surrounding the gun case.
