Man in hospital after shooting himself

JOLIET — A man is in critical condition after accidentally shooting himself in the face, Joliet police said Saturday.
The 21-year-old man on Friday was showing off the handgun to three people in his car when it went off, police said. The bullet lodged in his skull. He was taken to Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center where a neurosurgeon was to perform surgery.
Police did not release the name of the man.
They said the incident occurred at about 5 p.m. in the 300 block of South Ottawa Street. The gun was a .25-caliber Beretta 6.25.
