Minooka High School Board to fill vacancy

An open seat on the Minooka High School Board will be filled by the district’s Jan. 17 meeting, Superintendent Jim Colyott said.
The board last week went into closed session to discuss the candidates who submitted applications for the seat. They intended to narrow the field and make the final decision by next month.
The seat was vacated when longtime board member Debra Warning was elected to the Grundy County Board last month.
The seat became available Dec. 4 and the board has 45 days from then to fill it, Colyott said.
Two seats on the high school board are from unincorporated Minooka, according to board regulations, and the open seat must be filled with a resident from that area.
In a similar matter, the filing date for board candidates for the spring election has been extended to 5 p.m. Thursday.
Five board seats will be open in the next election, including the seat vacated by Warning. Other terms that will expire are board President Chris Kobe, Jim Butterbach, Douglas Kaufmann and Jeff Wunderlich.
Two of the five must be from unincorporated Minooka area.
Bus lease
One of the district’s school buses is ready to be put out to pasture, but it’s in the best interest of the district to lease one for the next three years.
A new bus would run the district close to $49,000. To replace the failing engine of the current bus, it would cost at least $11,000.
A lease will be signed for three years at a cost of $7,051 per year.
