JOLIET — Police say a man shot his girlfriend before killing himself early Christmas morning.
Cmdr. Brian Benton said it was not known why Clifton T. Williams, 23, and the 22-year-old woman began arguing around 2 a.m. inside Williams’ home on Spruce Slip Street, but the confrontation escalated.
“When she tried to leave and walked to her vehicle parked on the street outside, he took out a handgun and chased her around the car while shooting at her,” Benton said.
The woman was struck three times in the shoulder, forearm and thigh, but all of her injuries were non-life-threatening, according to reports.
Williams then “turned the gun on himself” and shot himself once in the head, Benton said.
Williams’ family called 911, but Williams was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:40 a.m.
An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.
The woman was hospitalized, but is expected to recover, reports said.
Investigators have located the gun used in the incident.
