Joliet’s hospital is starting off the new year with a new name.
The name, Presence St. Joseph Medical Center, is a product of the November 2011 merger of Provena Health of Mokena and Resurrection Health Care of Chicago.
While the hospital has been using the new name for some time, Presence Health will publicly launch the new name and logo next month.
“People know us so much as Provena St. Joseph Medical Center, and our mission and values have been consistent throughout,” hospital spokeswoman Jan Ciccarelli said. “Being part now of the largest Catholic health system in Illinois, what we have to offer is the same commitment … but we have so much more to offer.”
The name Presence was chosen by the Corporate Member, the organization’s five sponsoring organizations: Sisters of Mercy of the Americas, the Franciscan Sisters of the Sacred Heart, the Servants of the Holy Heart of Mary, the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth and the Sisters of the Resurrection.
The Catholic nonprofit network includes Provena Mercy Medical Center in Aurora and other hospitals in the region.
Saint Joseph’s received a few year-end accolades as well.
The hospital was one of 164 hospitals nationwide to receive the American College of Cardiology Foundation’s NCDR ACTION Registry — GWTC Platinum Performance Achievement Award for 2012.
The award recognizes the hospital’s achievement in treating heart attack patients at levels of care outlined by the American College of Cardiology and the clinical guidelines and recommendations of the American Heart Association.
In November, Presence St. Joseph Medical Center received an A rating for hospital safety by The Leapfrog Group, an independent, national non-profit organization run by employers and other large purchasers of health benefits.
The ratings are based on publicly-available hospital safety data, such as the number of preventable medical errors, injuries, accidents and infections.
In December, Chicago Magazine ranked Presence St. Joseph Medical Center 11th on its list of the top 12 hospitals in the Chicago area.
The magazine analyzed data on medical quality for 97 hospitals in the six-county Chicago metro area, and noted that as part of Presence Health the hospital has expanded opportunities for collaboration with other Chicago-area providers.
