PLAINFIELD — The body of a Joliet Township man, a registered sex offender, was found inside a car overturned in a creek Monday morning.
About 7:10 a.m., police and firefighters were called to Lily Cache Creek, about 100 yards south of the U.S. 30 bridge. Police report a Mercedes was completely frosted over and ice had formed around it.
“The water was about halfway up the side of the vehicle, and divers found a man already deceased inside,” Assistant Fire Chief Jon Stratton said.
The Will County coroner’s office identified George C. Weathered, 30, through fingerprints. An autopsy performed Monday showed that Weathered drowned.
In May 2005, authorities searched Weathered’s St. Charles home and discovered hundreds of computer movies and images depicting sexual assaults on children. He served 90 days in jail and was required to register as a lifetime sex offender.
