Joliet police are seeking two parolees accused of shooting a man in the neck outside a gas station early Saturday.

Around 3 a.m. the 31-year-old victim was inside Citgo, 379 S. Chicago St., and got into an argument with another customer, Chief Mike Trafton said.

“When he walked out of the business, he was jumped by a group of men,” Trafton said. “The fistfight ended when Anthony White took out a handgun and shot him in the throat.”

White, 24; Gregory A. Sellers, 24, and the other suspects then fled in a Mercury sedan, Trafton said. An ambulance took the victim to Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center. He was later airlifted to Loyola Medical Center in Maywood where he remained in critical condition Monday afternoon. Reports said the victim could be paralyzed from his wound.

Trafton said White and Sellers were identified by “numerous witnesses at the scene” and detectives obtained warrants for their arrests Saturday.

White is wanted for attempted murder and faces a $2 million bond. Sellers is wanted for aggravated battery and mob action and faces a $500,000 bond.

The Mercury was located at White’s last known address in the 100 block of East Zarley Boulevard. A SWAT team raided the house early Sunday after receiving a search warrant, but the suspects were not inside.

“We believe they have left the area (but) they are considered armed and dangerous,” Trafton said.

White is currently on parole for shooting another man directly across the street from the same gas station five years ago.

On April 8, 2008, White drove past a group of men standing at the corner of McDonough and Chicago streets when they reportedly shot at his car. He “pulled over, got out and fired back at them,” police said. One of White’s shots struck a 21-year-old man in the arm.

He was sentenced to five years in prison, but was released on parole in July 2012.

“It’s frustrating to see how we’re dealing with gun offenses,” Trafton said. “The system is broken (when) you try to kill someone, do three (sic) years, get out and shoot someone else at the same location. We need to start holding people accountable.”

Sellers was arrested by sheriff’s police in December 2006 for shooting a 19-year-old man in the thigh near the corner of Whitehall Court and Bradford Road. He has been on parole since January 2012 from a six-year sentence.

Anyone with information on White or Sellers’ whereabouts is asked to call detectives at 815-724-3020 or anonymously call CrimeStoppers at 800-323-6734.
