Former Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr. and his wife, ex-Ald. Sandi Jackson, are expected to appear in federal court in Washington, D.C., and enter guilty pleas on Wednesday.
Jesse Jackson Jr., 47, is expected to plead guilty at a court appearance scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Chicago time, while his wife’s appearance is scheduled at 1:30 p.m. Both are to appear before U.S. District Court Judge Robert L. Wilkins, according to the court docket.
The former representative was charged with illegally spending $750,000 of campaign funds on personal items, including memorabilia from Michael Jackson, Bruce Lee, Malcolm X, Martin Luther King Jr. and Jimi Hendrix, as well as thousands of dollars worth of furs.
Sandi Jackson, 49, was an unnamed co-conspirator in that scheme and faces a separate count of filing false tax returns from 2006 to 2011.
The former congressman resigned from office in November amid the mounting strains of a federal criminal investigation and a diagnosis of bipolar depression.
Sandi Jackson resigned from her job as 7th Ward alderman last month, citing “very painful family health matters.”
Jesse Jackson could face up to five years in prison and be ordered to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars in forfeiture and restitution. Sandi Jackson is considered likely to receive probation.
More details on the cases against them may be released as part of their pleas on Wednesday.
