Police blotter: Teen shot leaving Joliet store

JOLIET — A 17-year-old male was shot in the leg Sunday afternoon.
The victim was leaving a store in the 1000 block of Woodruff Road about 3:20 p.m. when he “heard four or five shots and felt pain in his thigh,” police said.
The teen told police he did not see who fired the shots or where they’d come from. He was taken to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox and treated for a non-life-threatening injury, according to reports.
Would-be robber flees from
screaming woman, police say
Lockport police are looking for a man who attempted to rob a woman Friday night, but ran off when she started screaming.
About 7:45 p.m. Friday, the woman was walking from her car to the front door of a house in the 100 block of E. 11th Street when the man approached her.
The white man was in his early 20s, 6 feet tall and thin, wearing a black jacket, stocking cap and scarf. He held what looked like a toy gun or a BB gun, police said.
When he demanded the woman’s wallet and cell phone, she started screaming and he ran away without taking anything, police said.
The man may have knocked on the door of a house in the 100 block of Hamilton about this time, then said “Sorry, wrong house,” and fled when the resident opened the door, police said.
The incident is under investigation.
No injuries in Joliet fire
Three people escaped a fire in their two-flat unscathed Friday night.
About 9:30 p.m., Joliet firefighters responded to the house at 922 Cora St.
The resident of the upstairs apartment met the crew outside and said there was a fire in the upstairs bathroom, authorities said.
Firefighters escorted two residents of the lower level apartment out of the building, then extinguished the fire.
The cause of the fire, which was in the bathroom walls and ceiling, is under investigation, authorities said.
