Police blotter: Clerks cited for selling tobacco to minors

JOLIET — Clerks at 10 businesses were given tickets Friday night after allegedly selling tobacco to minors.

Detectives and teen volunteers participated in the citywide sting as part of a routine compliance check with businesses that sell cigarettes.

Cited were: Abdullah I. Bachu, 67, of Plainfield, at Citgo, 609 Ruby St.; Paula M. Reardon, 52, of Shorewood, at 692 Theodore St.; Vivian C. Black, 39, of Joliet, at Mobil, 1529 N. Broadway; Stephanie Malak, 50, of Joliet, at Shell, 3021 Plainfield Road; Marisol Reyes-Penaloza, 19, of Joliet, at 563 N. Collins St.; Jessica M. Zander, 25, of Joliet, at Shell, 710 E. Cass St.; Khalil M. Ahmad, 56, of Joliet, at 935 W. Jefferson St.; Amanda M. Curry, 22, of Joliet, at Shell, 401 S. Larkin Ave.; Vaneza Ramirez, 21, of Joliet, at Citgo, 334 N. Collins St., and Jashumati V. Patel, 68, of Hoffman Estates, at 7-11, 3620 Rock Creek Blvd.

In brief:

Joliet firefighters spent an hour controlling the damage when a vacant house caught fire Sunday morning. The fire was reported at 6:45 a.m. on the first floor of a two-story building in the 600 block of West Marion Street.

Michael R. Ford: 22, of 16558 Zausa Drive in Crest Hill, was arrested by Joliet police Wednesday on a charge of residential burglary.

Timothy T.Q. Nguyen: 31, of Milpitas, Calif., was arrested by sheriff’s police Thursday on a charge of delivery of marijuana.

Hung Tran: 38, of Champlin, Minn., was arrested by sheriff’s police Thursday on a charge of delivery of marijuana.

Gregory Washington: 53, of 506 Lehman Ave. in Joliet, was arrested by sheriff’s police Thursday on charges of unlawful use of a weapon, defacing the identifying markings of a firearm and unauthorized possession of a firearm.

Anthony M. Rovano: 33, of 517 Blackhawk Lane in Bolingbrook, was arrested by Romeoville police Friday on charges of aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol and no insurance.

Justin A. Wallace: 19, of 1319 N. Raynor Ave. in Joliet, was arrested by Joliet police Friday on charges of burglary and criminal trespassing.

Rigoberto Alviter-Jimenez: 34, of 405 Oscar Ave. in Joliet, was arrested by sheriff’s police Friday on a charge of driving on a suspended license.

Gerardo Reyes: 23, of 709 Landau Ave. in Joliet, was arrested by sheriff’s police Friday on a charge of delivery of drugs.

Matthew C. Noah: 29, of 111 W. Main St. in Peotone, was arrested by Peotone police Friday on charges of drug possession and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Michael S. James: 22, of 238 Seabury Road in Bolingbrook, was arrested by Joliet police Saturday on a charge of aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol.

James G. Schoepf: 46, of 10218 S. Charles St. in Palos Hills, was arrested by Mokena police Saturday on charges of aggravated battery, drug possession, driving on a suspended license and no insurance.

Don J. Bermudez: 36, of 232 Falconridge Way in Bolingbrook, was arrested by Bolingbrook police Saturday on charges of domestic battery, endangering the life or health of a child and drug possession.

Esau Mendoza: 22, of 408 Henderson Ave. in Joliet, was arrested by sheriff’s police Saturday on a charge of driving without a license.

Jessie M. Jeffries: 30, of 513 W. Bellarmine Drive in Joliet, was arrested by Joliet police Sunday on charges of aggravated assault and aggravated domestic battery.

Fredy F. Sobron-Lopez: 32, of 211 Herkimer St. in Joliet, was arrested by Joliet police Sunday on charges of battery, driving under the influence of alcohol, driving on a suspended license and no insurance.

Monica M. Aseves: 21, of 418 Holmes St. in Lemont, was arrested by Bolingbrook police Sunday on a charge of drug possession.

Anthony D. DiFabio: 36, of 1119 Brooke Lane in New Lenox, was arrested by New Lenox police Sunday on charges of domestic battery and interfering with reporting domestic violence.

Francisco Maldonado-Ruiz: 29, of 2860 E. Kentucky Road in Beecher, was arrested by sheriff’s police Sunday on a charge of driving without a license.
