Police blotter: Parolee recaptured after escape attempt

Updated: April 9, 2013 11:22AM

JOLIET — Police say a parolee cut his ankle-monitoring bracelet to escape house arrest Tuesday.

But Andre L. Nash, 36, was recaptured by tactical officers and Department of Corrections marshals Wednesday, Cmdr. Rich Demick said.

Nash was convicted of violating an order of protection in 2012 and sentenced to a year in prison. But after spending only three weeks in prison last month, Nash was paroled on Feb. 25.

IDOC records show Nash has done time for five domestic battery and protective order violations in Will County during the last 10 years.

Demick said IDOC marshals were alerted when Nash cut off his GPS monitoring system and went to 604 Clement St. where he was supposed to be.

“He was not, but the marshals had information he was at a residence in the 1400 block of Englewood Avenue,” Demick said. “There was no answer when officers knocked, but the property owner arrived and let them in where they found Nash and he surrendered.”

Nash was booked into the county jail on charges of escaping electronic monitoring and violating parole conditions.
