JOLIET— A 26-year-old Joliet man out walking his dog was shot in a drive-by shooting Tuesday night, police said.
Police Cmdr. Brian Benton said the incident appears to be gang-related.
The shooting happened about 6:30 p.m. when the man was walking his dog in the 400 block of East Jackson Street.
The occupant of a passing vehicle leaned out the window and opened fire, according to witnesses.
The victim was struck in the torso and legs before the car sped away.
The dog was not injured.
The victim was taken to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox and questioned by detectives before going into surgery, Benton said. The victim’s condition was unavailable, but he remained hospitalized Wednesday afternoon.
Police did not release a description of the shooter or vehicle, but are seeking a “person of interest” for questioning, Benton said.
