Joliet police are asking the public for any information they may have involving the murder of a 39-year-old Lockport man last summer.
On Aug. 9, Sean D. McGinn went to meet with Jermain K. Bennett, now 39, at the gym they co-owned — KO Zone Boxing Club, 218 E. Cass St. McGinn parked behind the building and was shot twice. Police have said Bennett took a large amount of cash from McGinn’s vehicle, but they believe another suspect pulled the trigger.
Nearby residents reported gunfire and called police, reports said.
Bennett was arrested the next day after being questioned by detectives and remains in the Will County jail on $2 million bail on murder and armed robbery charges.
“This has remained a very active investigation since the first arrest, but we are still seeking the public’s help to identify and apprehend any others involved,” Detective Patrick Schumacher said.
Anyone with information can call Schumacher at (815) 724-3039 or anonymously call CrimeStoppers at 800-323-6734. CrimeStoppers is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction in this case.
