JOLIET — Police are seeking the public’s help in tracking the last few hours of the life of a South Dakota man who was found stabbed to death Monday morning.
A passer-by discovered the body of Jarrod W. Marks, 43, about 6 a.m. in a grassy area near Bluff Park, south of Jefferson Street.
Investigators believe Marks was killed where his body was found, Joliet police Cmdr. Brian Benton said Tuesday.
Marks was last seen with several people near some bushes in the park where people frequently gather to drink, according to detectives.
Benton said Marks had been visiting relatives in Joliet for several weeks before he was killed. No suspects have been identified, nor has a motive been determined.
“We are asking anyone who may have seen him or been in the area late Sunday or early Monday to call us with information,” Benton said.
Anyone with information can call detectives at 815-724-3020 or anonymously call CrimeStoppers at 800-323-6734.
The site where Marks apparently was slain is near where the body of Jeanie Parker was thrown into the Des Plaines River in March. Parker was allegedly stabbed to death in her home by her son, Charles “C.J.” McCullum, who is facing murder charges. Benton said the Marks and Parker slayings are not related.
