Garbage pick-up in Joliet will start one hour earlier this week in reaction to the heat wave, and the city has announced what cooling centers are available as temperatures hit the 90s again Monday.
Waste Management on Tuesday through Friday will start picking up garbage, recycling and yard waste at 6 a.m. instead of the usual time of 7 a.m., the city announced.
The earlier schedule is aimed at reducing the impact of the heat and humidity on garbage truck drivers.
City officials also noted that garbage pick-ups next week will run one day later than normal because of the Labor Day holiday.
Meanwhile, cooling centers are available for people suffering from the high temperatures, the city announced.
Cooling centers include:
The Joliet Public Library both downtown and on Black Road
Louis Joliet Mall
Illinois Department of Employment Security, 45 E. Webster St.
Illinois Rehabilitation Service Center, 1617 W. Jefferson St.
