A retired Joliet journalist accused of manufacturing child pornography and obstructing justice was ordered held without bond on Wednesday.
Randall Samborn, spokesman for the U.S. attorney’s office, said a federal judge ordered John Gabriel held without bond.
Gabriel, 77, was arrested by the FBI earlier this month, accused of manufacturing child pornography and obstructing justice by damaging a computer that contained evidence against him.
Gabriel is a former Joliet Times Weekly reporter and later launched the free “Weekly Reporter.”
Last year, the FBI raided the home he shares with Troy Township Democratic committeewoman Margarita Hernandez and she was charged then with having sex with a 15-year-old boy.
No future court date was set for Gabriel, Samborn said.
