Mokena has begun a nationwide search for a new police chief by hiring Deerfield-based Voorhees Associates to find a replacement for Police Chief Randy Rajewski, who retires at the end of the year.
Mayor Frank Fleischer said the search firm will interview village officials, staff and the police and fire commissioners to determine what qualities they want in a chief.
“We want to bring in someone who is compatible,” Fleischer said.
The cost of the search is $15,400. Candidates will be sought from throughout the country, and those within the department also will be considered, he said.
“We never want to stop our staff from putting in a resume,” he said.
“Randy will be missed. He was a very good people person,” the mayor said.
Rajewski was promoted from within the police department and has served as chief for 10 years.
