FRANKFORT TOWNSHIP — A man was arrested Sunday after reportedly threatening his neighbors and their dog with a power saw.
Around 6 p.m. Sunday, a resident of Walnut Street heard Richard Zmolek, 50, yelling “Let your dog out,” Will County Sheriff’s police said.
When Zmolek yelled the same thing again, the man and his wife went out to their back porch to ask what he wanted.
“Zmolek stated, ‘Let your dog out. I’m going to cut his head off. I’m going to cut your head off too,’” according to reports. He was holding a circular saw that was powered by an extension cord run to his garage at 19535 Catulpa St.
The 28-year-old man and 35-year-old woman returned inside and called police. They reportedly told responding deputies Zmolek has threatened their dogs in the past, but had not threatened them before.
Deputies found Zmolek in front of his house where he “stated all the dogs in the neighborhood were the problem,” reports said. “Zmolek was extremely angry that the dogs, including (the victims’), were barking at all hours of the day and night. Zmolek insisted he did not have to deal with that and he was going to take care of the problem.”
When a deputy asked Zmolek why he had a circular saw and extension cord in his backyard, he reportedly repeated he was “sick of the dogs barking (and) if the police weren’t going to do anything about it he would.”
Zmolek was arrested on a charge of assault and taken to the temporary holding facility in Crete where he was released on bond.
