Motorcycle driver injured in crash

JOLIET — A motorcycle driver was in critical condition Sunday night after a collision in the early morning hours.
Brian M. Riley, 38, of Crestwood was on Larkin Avenue at about 2:10 a.m. when his motorcycle stalled at Black Road. He was then rear-ended by the driver of a car who left the scene, police said.
About an hour later police received a call from Katie S. Picciolo, 23, of 105 Twin Oaks Drive, Joliet. Police said Picciolo turned herself in as the driver involved in the accident.
Police went to Picciolo’s residence and arrested her on charges of failure to report an accident with injuries and failure to reduce speed.
She was booked into Will County Jail. Riley is being treated at Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet.
Police said Riley was thrown from the motorcycle in the collision. A reconstruction of the accident was being done to determine the speed of Picciolo’s car.
Both vehicles were in the southbound lanes.
Domestic incident
JOLIET — A Chicago man was arrested Saturday after a domestic incident involving a woman and a baby in the 300 block of North Bluff Street.
A 24-year-old woman told police that she was pushed around in her apartment when she tried to stop the accused man from “punching and shaking” the baby, according to a police report of the incident.
Leroy Trotter Jr., 24, of 6914 S. Western Ave. left the scene but was found later by police, according to the report.
He was arrested on charges of aggravated battery of a child and domestic battery.
The incident occurred at 5 p.m., and Trotter was arrested 27 minutes later in the 200 block of North Broadway.
The woman was dating Trotter, according to the police report.
Men charged with theft
JOLIET — Two men were arrested Thursday morning after a witness spotted metal equipment being taken from a railroad area at East Ohio Street late in the morning.
The witness identified the departing vehicle as a Lincoln. Later, police stopped a car in the 800 block of New Lenox Street and arrested Timothy M. Smith Sr., 58, and James M. Smith, 64, both of 1214 Pequot St. They were arrested on charges of theft and criminal trespass.
Three car burglaries
JOLIET — Police are investigating three car burglaries that were reported Friday morning from subdivisions on the city’s far West Side.
The burglaries apparently occurred overnight in residential driveways in the 7000 block of Sugar Maple Drive, the 6900 block of Great Falls Drive and the 2000 block of Briar Ridge Court.
Two GPS systems were stolen. Also taken were a car stereo, a digital camera, and a wallet with credit cards and identification.
