Brian Stanley (not me) is missing!

Story Image

These photos of the St. Ray's Class of 1962 are the last known photo the reunion committee has of Brian Stanley. Stanley has no relationship to Herald-News reporter Brian Stanley. | Submitted by Sandy Rodeghero

Do I look 63 years old?

My vanity was crushed as I listened to the message. But there it was. Sandy Rodeghero wanted to know if I had graduated from the Cathedral of St. Raymond School in 1962.

I think my mugshot is a fairly accurate likeness and I don’t know if my ego can take being offered a senior discount at this point in my life.

So, to feel young and hip I had to call Rodeghero back and explain she was off by a generation; my mother had barely graduated grade school in 1962.

“I didn’t mean you. I can see the picture,” Sandy reassured me. “But we have a Brian Stanley we haven’t tracked down for the class reunion, and I thought maybe it was your father or an uncle and took a chance.”

It isn’t, but that’s not important right now. We have a mystery. Brian Stanley (not me) is missing!

Now perhaps he doesn’t want to be found. I admit I’d be mostly indifferent if someone from my grade school was trying to reach me (Brian Stanley). And it’s entirely possible that Brian Stanley (not me) has passed away in the past half-century.

But maybe he’s just out of touch on the other side of the world. I’d like to imagine he owns an estate somewhere tropical so I can easily assume his identity and claim it was an innocent mistake if I’m caught. I’m not saying I’m going to; I just like to have options.

While writing this, I considered the older Brian Stanley may have already thought of the same plan and checked another possible destination. Luckily, the Department of Corrections has no inmate listing for Brian Stanley.

Rodeghero said no one on the reunion committee remembered for certain where the other Brian Stanley had gone to high school or when he was last seen after the last day of eighth grade.

“I remember him very vaguely,” she said. “He’s one of the lost boys of our class.”

But I had to start somewhere and called St. Ray’s. As is my usual experience, local churches are never enthusiastic to hear from the police reporter.

But once I explained what I wanted, they were able to search the records and learn that Brian Stanley (not me) lived on Kelly Avenue while attending school.

So if anyone from the neighborhood remembers the Stanleys, let me know and I’ll pass the information on.

If the other Brian Stanley can be found by June 23, he can attend Mass, tour the school and get appetizers at Syl’s with the other alumni.

And if Bridget Bannon, Robert Block, Barry Bucciarelli, Mary Lynn Crawley Contos, Patrick Hayes, Craig Johnson or Patricia McCann are out there, Rodeghero is looking for you too.

I don’t know if any columnists are.
