Limestone Brewery leaving Plainfield for Aurora

Updated: April 29, 2012 8:06AM

PLAINFIELD — Residents will have to travel a little farther for craft beer, as the village’s first microbrewery closes up shop and heads north to Aurora.

The owners of Limestone Brewing Company announced Saturday they were closing at the end of business that day and relocating the restaurant to the Fox Valley shopping area.

Until this weekend, the restaurant was located in the North Plainfield Crossing shopping center, 12337 S. Route 59.

The move is linked to a conflict with the building’s landlord, according to a news release from the restaurant’s owners.

“It has been a tremendous couple of years,” General Manager Jason Rosendahl said in the news release. “Unfortunately we couldn’t come to terms with our landlord who is facing his own set of problems with the foreclosure of the property.”

However, the space won’t remain vacant for long.

The Tommy Nevins corporation plans to open a restaurant in the space soon, Plainfield Mayor Mike Collins said.

The restaurant won’t be called Tommy Nevins Pub, as its locations in Frankfort, Naperville and Evanston are, Collins said. The company also operates Muldoon’s Eatery in Wheaton and The Kerry Piper in Willowbrook.

“I wish (the owners of Limestone) well,” Collins said.

Limestone Restaurant and Brewery opened in Plainfield in December 2009, after two years spent acquiring financing.

The restaurant had a Plainfield flavor, as some of the beer brewed there was given distinct Plainfield names — Electric Park Golden Ale and Indian Boundary Ale, for example.

The business owners could not be reached for comment Monday morning.

The shopping center’s owners filed for bankruptcy in January 2011, and the building is in foreclosure.

Woodridge-based Ardmin Properties, which is one of the building’s owners, has a description of the shopping center on its website under the header “leasing opportunities,” A link to northplainfieldcrossing.com does not work.

Calls to Ardmin Properties for comment were not returned.
