Business Briefs: Joliet chamber committee earns education award

JOLIET — The education committee of the Joliet Region Chamber of Commerce and Industry has been selected as the recipient of a “Those Who Excel” Award of Merit by the Illinois State Board of Education. The education committee is composed of about 30 educators and business representatives and is the only organization other than a school district or individual educator to receive the award. The chamber’s committee is co-chaired by Mark Griglione of First Community Bank and Cheryl McCarthy, superintendent of Joliet Township High School District 204.

Lockport gala

LOCKPORT — The Lockport Chamber of Commerce’s Autumn Dinner Gala will feature a Frank Sinatra singer, casino games, raffles and a Roaring ’20’s speakeasy theme. The event is scheduled from 6 to 11 p.m. Friday at Narnia Estates, 16501 135th St. The Businesses of the Year will be announced along with the Adelmann Improvement Award. Local police officers and the firefighter of the year also will be recognized. Tickets are $65 per person or $120 a couple.
