Business Bits: Affordable Care Act seminar set for Wednesday

JOLIET — The Illinois Small Business Development Center at Joliet Junior College will host a free seminar, “What Small Businesses Need to Know About The Affordable Care Act,” from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the main campus, 1215 Houbolt Road.

Shred day Saturday
ROMEOVILLE — State Rep. Emily McAsey (D-Lockport) will host a community shred and electronics recycling day from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at her office, 209 W. Romeo Road, Romeoville
Documents will be safely destroyed and old electronic equipment such as computers, cellphones and audio equipment will be accepted for recycling. For more information, call McAsey’s office at 815-372-0085.
Furniture First event
JOLIET — Mike’s Furniture and Mattress, a local member of Furniture First National Buying Cooperative, is participating in the group’s first national furniture sale from Sept. 20–29.
Furniture First is a cooperative of more than 200 family-owned furniture retailers, operating more than 425 stores in 47 states. Mike’s Furniture, at 830 E. Cass St., Joliet, has been a member of Furniture First since 2001. Furniture First only accepts stores that are full-line independents and that have been in business for more than five years.
Midland hires manager
EFFINGHAM — Midland States Bank has hired Mark Grossi as regional banking center manager.
Grossi will be responsible for the management and coordination of consumer banking programs for Midland’s northern and eastern Illinois regions. The regions include Joliet, Champaign, Dixon, Freeport, Mendota, Oregon, Peru, Princeton, Rock Falls and Sterling. Grossi has more than 20 years of experience in the financial services industry and received his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Elmhurst College.
