‘Glee’s’ Chris Colfer comes to Anderson’s

He can sing, he can dance, he can act — and apparently, he can write, as well.

Television star Chris Colfer, who stars as Kurt Hummel on Fox’s hit show “Glee,” will present his new book, “The Land of Stories,” at a signing event at Anderson’s Bookshop in Naperville at 7 p.m. July 19.

Anderson’s nabbed the Hollywood — and literary — star thanks to its stellar reputation among publishers.

“We do book events all the time, and a lot of our writers are celebrities, and publishers trust that we know how to handle events like this,” said spokeswoman Candy Purdom.

She is a self-admitted “Gleek” and is looking forward to reading Colfer’s book and meeting him as well.

“It’s a fairy tale,” she said of his book. “He’s a creative, talented guy. If they are fans of his, I would hope they would like his book as well.”

“The Land of Stories: The Wishing Spell” will be released on July 17. It is aimed at middle readers and tells the story of twin brothers Alex and Conner Bailey, and their journey through a mysterious old storybook. The book takes the twins to a magical land where the boys come face-to-face with the fairy tale characters they grew up reading about.

But after a series of encounters with witches, wolves, goblins and trolls alike, getting back home is going to be harder than they thought.

Priority numbers for the book signing line are available with the purchase of “The Land of Stories” only from Anderson’s Bookshop. This event is a book signing line only where fans will get an opportunity to meet Colfer.

That means, don’t bring all your “Glee” CDs and pillowcases; he won’t sign them. Ditto the copy of his book you bought from another source; you have to buy the book from Anderson’s.

You can take pictures while in the line but Colfer won’t pause from signing to put his arm around you and smile for the camera.

“You can snap pictures as things are going in, but there will just be too many people here to pose for pictures with everyone,” she said.

You can pre-order the book at Anderson’s. As of now, she isn’t sure how long Colfer will sign books.

“If you are interested, act quickly,” she said. “We are very excited that his published selected our store to be one of the stops on his tour.”

Colfer, a Golden Globe winner, was recently included in Time magazine’s annual list of the 100 most influential people in the world. Colfer will be seen in the independent film “Struck by Lightning,” which he both wrote and produced. The coming-of-age comedy also stars Allison Janney, Christina Hendricks, Dermot Mulroney and Sarah Hyland.

Additionally, Colfer recently adapted “The Little Leftover Witch,” a pilot for the Disney Channel based on the children’s book of the same name by Florence Laughlin. The series centers on a little witch who was taken in by a family after crash-landing her broom.
