Backed by a new name, Glen Ellyn’s annual day of jazz concerts returns.

Jazz in Glen Ellyn will be from 3 to 10 p.m. July 14 on Main Street in downtown Glen Ellyn.

The free event features top Chicago jazz musicians, food, wine and beer. It is sponsored by Glen Ellyn Chamber of Commerce.

Georgia Koch, director of the Chamber of Commerce, said they aimed for diversity when they booked it.

“We wanted a vocalist, a pianist, a drummer, a horn section,” she said. “We tried for a nice variety of jazz musicians.”

One interesting performer is John Molder of the John Molder Quartet, who is playing at 8 p.m.

“He’s also a Catholic priest,” she said. “I had heard about him from another jazz artist. They said, ‘You ought to look into him because he is a superb guitarist.’”

Molder was available and able to play, she said.

“I was very happy I got him,” she said.

The headliner, Paul Wertico of the Paul Wertico Quintet, is a seven-time Grammy award winner, she said. He will perform from 9:30 to 10:30 p.m.

“He’s been a drummer since he was a kid. He was one of those prodigies,” she said. “He has played with jazz greats and all sorts of famous artists.”

A member of the Pet Metheny Group since 1983, he has performed with a who’s who of jazz giants such as Howard Levy, Jaco Pastorius, Ron Carter and Dave Liebman.

Opening the show at 3:30 p.m. is BakerzMillion, followed at 5 p.m. by Typhanie Monique and Marshall Vente at 6:30 p.m.

“BakerzMillion are horn guys, and I’m really excited about having them play,” she said. “Typhanie Monique is an up-an-coming vocalist and has been compared to Sarah Vaughn.”

BakerzMillion is a Chicago-based jazz sextet playing the original compositions of co-leaders, Andy Baker and Steve Million. Typhanie Monique is a smooth-jazz singer-songwriter.

Taphouse Grill will supply the food for the food tent. The beer will be standard, with a couple of craft brew offerings and Sangria as well.

Food will consist of pork sandwiches, shaved prime rib sandwiches, chopped Caprese salad, truffled potato chips, chicken beer brats and grilled chicken satay.

“I think it is going to be a spectacular evening with the lineup we have,” she said. “We’ve got food, we’ve got drink; we’ve got great music. It’s the trifecta.”
