Gluten-free meeting: 10 a.m. to noon Feb. 4 at the Edward Hospital Plainfield Outpatient Center, 24150 127th St., Plainfield. To improve the quality of life of those living with celiac disease and gluten intolerance through education, advocacy and support in a group setting.
Hallelujah Soup Supper: 4-7 p.m. Feb. 4, Coal City United Methodist Church, 6805 E. McArdle Road in Coal City. The church invites the community to join them for homemade chicken noodle and vegetable beef soups at a Hallelujah Soup Supper in the church’s fellowship hall. Cost will be $8 for adults and children 13 and older; $4 for children ages 6-12; $2 for children ages 3-5; and free for children 2 and younger. Each meal includes choice of soup, crackers, bread, cheese, beverage, ice cream and dessert. A children’s menu and carry-outs are available. All proceeds go to the church’s building fund. Tickets will be sold at the door.
Sweetest event: The third annual Hugs and Wishes Chocolate Ball will be from 7-11 p.m. Feb. 4 at Shorewood Village Hall. Includes entertainment by Michael J. Perkins, free chocolate martinis, raffles, a silent auction, appetizers, a cash bar and some of the finest chocolate creations in our area. Tickets cost $40 per person when purchased in advance at Shorewood Village Hall or $50 when purchased at the door. Proceeds benefit the Hugs & Wishes Program, which fulfills wishes for people in the community, and the Shorewood Veterans Memorial. The event is sponsored by Heartland Bank and Trust Co. Valentine’s Day candy-bar wrapper decorating: 2 p.m. Feb. 4 and 11 at Ikea, 750 E. Boughton Road in Bolingbrook. Looking for a fun Valentine’s Day activity for the kids? Bring them to Ikea in Bolingbrook and let them decorate their own candy-bar wrapper as a gift for a parent, teacher or friend. The craft is free.
