Church celebrating 132 years
JOLIET — Second Baptist Church, at 156 S. Joliet St., will celebrate its 132nd anniversary.
Begun in 1880, the church is the oldest historically African-American church in the area. Under the leadership of Pastor Larry V. Tyler, it has continued a legacy of service to the community.
The celebration will culminate with a full day of activity Sunday. Guest preacher at the 7:30 a.m. service will be Dr. Robert C. Jones of Chicago. The Rev. Steven Spiller, also of Chicago, will deliver the sermon at the 10:45 a.m. service. Following that service, a special dinner is planned, followed by a movie.
Baptist church marks 105 years
LOCKPORT — Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, at 18101 Oak Ave., will celebrate its 105th year. A schedule of events is as follows:
7 p.m. April 23-27: guests church speakers represented in Lebanon District and female ministers that have accepted their calling at Shiloh will each give 10-15 minutes of words of encouragement.
5 p.m. April 28: Music with guests from the Shiloh Greater United Choir and Shiloh Reunion Choir.
10 a.m. April 29: regular service with anniversary/homecoming/dedication.

Apollo Chorus schedules show
JOLIET — Apollo Chorus of Chicago will return with a performance at the bishop’s seat in the Diocese of Joliet at 3 p.m. May 6 at the Cathedral of St. Raymond Nomnatus, at 608 N. Raynor Ave.
The Apollo Chorus is the area’s premier volunteer chorus. Its 125 members perform the masterworks of the choral repertoire in concert halls and cathedrals all over the Chicagoland area.
