Library hosts yo-yo show

MOKENA — The Mokena Library District celebrated National Library Week with special programs, games and activities the week of April 8.

Duncan yo-yo champion Barry North brought “around the world,” “skin the cat,” “the dog bite,” “loop-de-loop” and a plethora of other yo-yo tricks to the library April 14.

More than 50 people enjoyed the performance, and for many it brought back great memories of their youth. Everyone went home with a yo-yo and a new skill, the how-to’s of spinning a yo-yo.

St. Jude stages cantata concert

NEW LENOX — The Music Ministry at St. Jude Parish hosted the cantata, “The Song Everlasting,” on April 3 as part of the parish’s Holy Week events.

The cantata by Joseph M. Martin is based on early American songs. Martin incorporated hymns, spirituals and folk songs that were interspersed with the story of Christ’s Ministry while among us.

The St. Jude Music Ministry and orchestra as well as performers from the Lyric Opera performed the cantata.
