Today

Introduction to breastfeeding: From 7-8:30 p.m. April 18 in the family birthing suites classroom at Morris Hospital, 150 W. High St., Morris. Class focuses on the benefits of breastfeeding, pumping techniques and tips for returning to work. Breastfeeding moms will also get advice to help solve problems related to breastfeeding. Prepared childbirth class: 6:30-9 p.m. April 19 and 26 at Silver Cross Hospital, Pavilion A, Conference Center Room 1A, 1890 Silver Cross Blvd., New Lenox. Participants will receive instruction from a registered nurse on breathing, relaxation and floor exercise techniques. Cost is $75.

Saturday and Sunday

Prepared childbirth weekend class: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 21 and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 22 at Silver Cross Hospital, Pavilion A, Conference Center Room 1A, 1890 Silver Cross Blvd., New Lenox. Participants will receive instruction from a registered nurse on breathing, relaxation and floor exercise techniques. Cost is $75 per couple, which includes lunch.

Birthing center tours: 1:30 p.m. April 22 at the Silver Cross Hospital campus, 1900 Silver Cross Blvd., New Lenox.

Tuesday

Freedom from Smoking program: 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays for seven weeks starting April 24 at Lewis University, 1 University Parkway, Romeoville. Sponsored by the Will County Health Department. Silver Cross offers free weight loss surgery program: Looking to lose weight this year? Silver Cross Hospital is offering Obesity and Your Health: Is Weight Loss Surgery Right for You? Join Drs. Christopher Joyce and Brian Lahmann, experienced gastric bypass surgeons, for a free informational session about Obesity & Your Health: Is Weight Loss Surgery Right for You? The program is held at 5:45 p.m. every Wednesday in the Specialty Care Pavilion on the Silver Cross Hospital Campus, 1300 Copperfield Ave., Joliet. Participants will learn about the advantages and risks of traditional and laparoscopic bariatric weight loss surgery, including the Realize and Lap-Band gastric band systems, find out who is a candidate for the procedure, and hear from area patients about their experiences. Silver Cross has been named as Bariatric Center of Excellence by the American Society of Bariatric Surgery and a Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois Blue Distinction Center for Bariatric Surgery. Joint tune-up/arthritis program: 10:15-11:30 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays or 7-8 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays for seniors at Challenge Fitness Pool, 2021 S. Lawrence Ave., Lockport. The program is geared toward those people who are suffering from arthritis or who need physical rehab in warm water. The program is included in the Challenge Fitness premium membership and is free for SilverSneakers. The fee is $3 for residents or $4 for non-residents. Zumba: 7-7:45 p.m. Tuesdays at the Legion, on South Cedar Road in New Lenox. The cost is $5 per person. No reservations are needed.

Calcium artery scoring: Silver Cross Hospital offers a quick and painless test using a high-speed CT scanner that can measure calcium deposits in the coronary arteries to determine your risk of having a heart attack. Calcium artery scoring is ideal for men 45 and older and women 55 and older who smoke, have high blood pressure or high cholesterol or a family history of premature coronary artery disease.
